A minimum-security prisoner is on the run after escaping from Long Bay jail in Sydney’s south-east this morning.
Police are searching for David Mellis, 50, after he was reported missing from within the correctional facility at Malabar following a head check shortly after 11am.
It is believed Mr Mellis escaped while performing ground maintenance work.
The escapee was last seen wearing a high-visibility vest and prison greens and is known to frequent the Glebe area.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 170 to 175 centimetres tall, of medium build and with grey hair and brown eyes.
Anyone who sees the escapee or who knows of his whereabouts should contact Triple Zero or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 immediately.
