Prince Harry helps royals fan win $1000 on NZ tour

A royals fan in New Zealand appears to have won almost NZ$1000 ($930) after putting words in the mouth of Prince Harry during his visit to Wellington.

Ashlee Hall approached the young prince as he greeted throngs of adoring fans outside Government House on Saturday.

The Kiwi was in a NZ$1000 competition run by ZM Online to see who could get the prince to say the words "Hello Fletch, Vaughn and Megan", the hosts of a Kiwi radio show.

In a video posted on Instagram by radio host Megan Sellers, Ms Hall tells the prince that she needs the money because she is a student and "so poor".

"Is there not someone down here who might need it more?" the generous royal asks as he considers whether to help.

When Ms Hall assures him that she really needs it the soldier prince reluctantly obliges asking what he has to say to help her win the cash.

Prince Harry then utters the magic words and the student thanks him while others nearby burst into giddy laughter.

Another competition hopeful who managed to get the ear of the fifth in line for the throne after Ms Hall was disappointed when Prince Harry told him that he had already said hi to the trio.

Earlier the royal appeared to misunderstand the same request and responded with "Hi Fletch".

Prince Harry is in Christchurch today and will visit Whanganui and Auckland before his tour comes to an end.
