Queensland premier makes bid for Tesla batteries

Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is attempting to arm-wrestle battery giant Tesla away from Adelaide.

The massive battery, linked to solar panels, was developed by billionaire Elon Musk for the South Australian Labor government last year.

The battery is worth $50 million, capable of powering up to 30,000 homes for an hour.

The premier is insistent on bringing Telsa to Queensland, if the new South Australian Liberal government no longer wants it.

However, Queensland already has a solar power plant linked to a battery than can power 3000 homes, as part of the government's plan to have 50 percent renewable power by 2030.

The premier has earmarked $3 million for a feasability study looking at batteries and how to manufacture them here.
