Premier Gladys Berejiklian admits NSW is still playing catch-up on roads

On the eve of her first budget as NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian has made a frank admission.

“Are there things we could have done better? Of course. We’re not perfect,” she told 9NEWS.

The NSW government will throw big dollars at infrastructure projects across the state in the 2017/18 budget, with funding for a new hospital, museum and roads already announced.

A replacement for the Windsor Bridge over the Hawkesbury River is on the cards, as is an upgrade to Mona Vale road and an overhaul of the access roads around Sydney Airport.

And the premier admits her government is still playing catch up.

“It’s always difficult, because no matter which community I visit, people are generally warm and lovely … but they always say, ‘I need this, I need that’,” she said.

“I don’t blame people for having these expectations bit I do feel we have normalised it … we’ve made it look easier than what it is, but I can tell you it is really hard.”

Acknowledging her challenges ahead, the premier had one final message for the state ahead of tomorrow’s budget.

"We have the best and strongest economy in the nation, but we also have a big heart,” she said.
