Heavily pregnant woman remains in hospital after allegedly being punched in road rage incident

A seven-months pregnant woman is recovering in hospital after she was allegedly punched in the stomach in a road rage incident.

David Cutt, 37, is facing charges over the incident that took place in the Melbourne suburb of Broadmeadows last night.

Police say Mr Cutt was driving east along Camp Road when his car veered across four lanes of oncoming traffic. He then collided with the alleged victim's car before getting out and punching her to the face and stomach. 

He's also accused of injuring witnesses and other drivers who tried to restrain him and a police officer after they used capsicum spray. 

Mr Cutt faces a total of 28 charges including reckless conduct endangering persons, intentionally cause injury and other assault and traffic related offences.

His lawyer today said he was in a psychotic state at the time of the incident.

The 26-year-old woman is still traumatised and will spend the night at the Royal Womens' Hospital. Both she and her baby are healthy.
