Victoria Police are investigating after an expecting Melbourne couple discovered needles hidden inside grapes.

Skender Hasa and Shams Alsubaiy, from Craigieburn, were having an after-dinner snack last night when Ms Alsubaiy pricked her finger while picking up a green grape.

“When we cut it open there was a needle stuck through it,” Mr Hasa told 9News.

He said he bought the seedless fruit about 3.30pm yesterday from the Woolworths outlet at Craigieburn Plaza.

After cutting open every grape in the bag, they found two needles.

“I was just shocked, scared. I thought this was all over and done with,” Mr Hasa said, referring to the strawberry contamination saga that rippled through Australia last year.

The couple have alerted police, who have confirmed they are investigating the matter.

Woolworths confirmed it was aware of the matter.

“We're aware of the customer report and will work closely with the authorities as they investigate this matter,” the supermarket said in a statement.

Ms Alsubaiy said she is grateful she did not eat the fruit and plans to avoid it for the next few months.

“I thank God I didn’t eat them. I’m pregnant, and I don’t want anything to happen,” she said.
