Potty-mouthed passenger in alleged brutal attack of Newcastle bus driver

Dramatic vision has emerged of a violent attack on a bus driver by a passenger near Newcastle yesterday.

The driver was set upon after demanding the 28-year-old man exit the bus after repeatedly ignoring requests to tone down his offensive language on the service from the Hunter Valley to Port Stephens.

Video shows the driver being stomped upon and punched repeatedly before a good Samaritan fellow passenger intervenes, shielding him from the blows being delivered by his alleged assailant.

The 44-year-old driver had called for assistance on a two-way radio, only for his alleged attacker to destroy the device, throw him to the ground and begin punching him.

The driver was also struck on the head with a full bottle of alcohol.

The alleged attacker fled and was followed by a witness to a nearby home.

The man allegedly threatened arriving police with a knife before being arrested after a short struggle.

He was charged with malicious damage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, affray, use weapon to avoid apprehension, assault police and resist arrest.

Police want to speak to the man who came to the driver’s aid.

He is depicted in the image as being of Caucasian appearance, of medium build, with light brown hair.

He was seen wearing a black t-shirt with bright colours on the front, jeans and black thongs.
