Port Macquarie: Fears homes will become submerged within hours

Port Macquarie residents have been ordered to evacuate as fears grow that homes will soon become completely submerged in water.

The Mid North Coast has copped a dumping of rain overnight and this morning, with conditions showing no signs of easing up, concerning authorities that some areas will soon become inaccessible.

Between 300 to 400mm of broad rainfall is expected to batter the region this weekend, with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issuing several severe weather warnings for the area, citing a "serious risk".

"Torrential rain continued overnight across eastern NSW, with 300-400mm observed around Port Macquarie. Major flood warnings (red) are current and more are likely," the BOM said.

Short St, in the town's CBD, is almost completely underwater as emergency services work tirelessly to attend to callouts.

Logans Crossing, south of Port Macquarie, recorded 361mm in the last 24 hours with Kendall recording a whopping 403mm.

Residents have taken to social media to upload extraordinary footage of the scenes they face.

At Port Macquarie's North Shore, resident Monica Porte's house has flooded and has no access to electricity or water.

Ms Porte's three cars have also been lost to flood waters and the local ferry is no longer running, stranding her at her home.

Port Macquarie's Koala Hospital has closed due to the flooding of Lismore Road.

Residents of other low-lying areas such as North Haven, Dunbogan, Laurieton, Lower Macleay, Kempsey CBD, Wauchope, Rawdon Island, Bulahdelah, Kings Point, Macksville, Central Wingham, Taree Estate, Dumaresq Island and Cundletown have also been ordered to evacuate as flood waters rise.
