Poll suggests Pyne safe, Briggs in trouble

Controversial former junior minister Jamie Briggs is in real trouble of losing his once blue ribbon seat of Mayo in South Australia to the Nick Xenophon Team, a new poll suggests.

The Newspoll, published in The Weekend Australian, reveals an extraordinary swing of 14.5 per cent against Mr Briggs, putting NXT candidate Rebekha Sharkie ahead 52-48 on a two-party preferred basis.

Meanwhile, Christopher Pyne appears to have defied the NXT threat in his Adelaide seat of Sturt, with the cabinet minister on 58 per cent of the two-party preferred vote, a Galaxy poll in Saturday's Adelaide Advertiser shows.
