Poll shows the Napthine government is well behind Labor

The Napthine government remains stuck in a losing position barely two weeks out from the November 29 election, a new poll shows.

The Coalition's primary vote is on 39 percent, down sharply from the 2010 election result of 45 percent, the latest Fairfax Ipsos poll published today shows.

Labor's primary vote climbed two percentage points to 39 percent, while the Greens are on 16 percent.

In two-party preferred terms Labor continues to lead the Coalition 56 percent to 44 percent, when preferences are allocated.

The result, based on a survey of 1000 voters taken from November 6 to 9, suggests the Coalition is in danger of becoming Victoria's first single-term government for 60 years.

The poll was mostly taken before the Liberal campaign launch last Sunday, at which Premier Denis Napthine promised $3.9 billion for trains and trams over 10 years and $100 yearly rebates for parents of four-year-old children in kindergarten.
