Premier Mike Baird's popularity doesn't appear to have been hit by the NSW donations scandal, according to the latest Newspoll.

The poll, conducted for News Corp Australia during September and October, gave Mr Baird an approval rating of 56 per cent, while Opposition Leader John Robertson received 35 per cent.

In the largest gap recorded by Newspoll since February 2012, Mr Baird received 52 per cent support as preferred premier over Mr Robertson, while the latter was only favoured by 17 per cent.

There was little change in support for the major parties from the previous poll, with the coalition ahead on 55 per cent to Labor's 45 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis.

While the coalition suffered a small primary vote drop in the July-August poll, the latest numbers have nearly reversed that to give it 42 per cent support, while Labor is on 33 per cent.
