NSW Election: $619m boost for Westmead Children's Hospital
More sick children will receive treatment in western Sydney as part of a $619 million pre-election sweetener by the NSW government.
The funding, announced by Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Thursday, will go towards upgrading the Children's Hospital at Westmead and expanding its paediatric services.
“I’m incredibly proud of this investment. It demonstrates our commitment to the health needs of our community,” she said.
The investment is estimated to create 6190 direct and indirect jobs during construction.
If the coalition is re-elected on March 23, the money will fund a new paediatric services building and the refurbishment of operating theatres and paediatric and neonatal intensive care units. Cancer clinics will also be included.

NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard said the funding boost will greatly increase the capacity at the hospital.
“This significant additional funding will deliver both new and expanded health services for our state's sickest children," Mr Hazzard said in a statement.”
Early construction works are expected to start in 2020.
Christine Bennett from Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, said: "The community here in western Sydney but also from across the NSW and indeed beyond, will benefit from these new facilities and the research that is developed here."

But a campaign bus bungle is giving Labor another excuse to pull the focus from the Government's big spending pledges.
It appears the signs on the blue vehicle were printed in Queensland.
Queensland Premier Anastascia Palaszczuk tweeted: “So that makes two Premiers committed to Queensland jobs. Good to see @GladysB supporting my Buy Queensland policy. #nswpol#qldpol”
Labor’s Michael Daley told 9 News: "We've got trams and trains being built in Korea, China, France and Spain, and now the Big Blue Bus is being fitted out in Queensland, Can't this Premier ever look after jobs in NSW?"
The Opposition Leader was also promising hospital upgrades at Singleton and Muswelbrook as he makes a play for the National Held seat.
