A young police officer trapped underneath a 10-tonne truck following a horrific crash on Sydney's northern beaches has been placed in a medically-induced coma.
A police spokeswoman said the female officer is in a critical but stable condition and has been placed in a medically-induced coma because of head trauma from the accident on Tuesday morning.
The woman, who is in her 20s, was driving to work with another police officer when a Pantech truck contracted by trucking company SDV careered across an intersection before flipping and crashing into several cars.
The male officer is in a stable condition.
Police are carrying out a safety audit on Pantech and Taut Liner trucks.
The trucks will be inspected by police in a two-day operation while checks will also be conducted on freight trucks travelling on the M7 Motorway.
SDV said in a statement that they were helping the police investigating the Dee Why crash and conducting their own internal probe.
