A man wielding a knife has been Tasered by police during a bizarre chain of events in Adelaide.

CCTV footage captured the car revving its engine on a Mawson Lakes street about 9.30pm yesterday before it crashed into a nearby waterway.

"We opened the blinds just in time to see him swim to shore and climb out soaking wet," resident Rod Stubbington said.
