Driver who allegedly fled RBT and sparked police pursuit charged with multiple offences

A driver who allegedly fled a random breath test site and caused a police pursuit in Sydney’s south-west has been charged with multiple offences.

NSW Police allege authorities attempted to stop the 36-year-old Cabramatta man’s Toyota Corolla on Cabramatta Road West in Bonnyrigg about 2am on Wednesday.

The man allegedly refused to stop for police, sparking a pursuit through almost a dozen south-western Sydney suburbs, including Wetherill Park, Wentworthville and Rosehill.

The pursuit only came to an end when the man’s vehicle collided with a tree after a tyre burst.

The 36-year-old was taken to Westmead Hospital after the incident, where he remained under guard until he was released yesterday. 

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with driving while suspended, failing to stop for an RBT, negligent driving, driving more than 45km/h over the speed limit, not stopping for police in a pursuit and three counts of being in possession of prohibited drugs.

The driver was refused bail and is expected to appear before Fairfield Local Court today.
