Police probe into union put on hold

A court has temporarily ordered federal police not to examine some material seized during a raid on a union headquarters in Canberra.

Officers seized about 10,000 hard copy and electronic files during the raid on the CFMEU Canberra office on August 25.

But the construction union argued in the ACT Supreme Court on Thursday the issuing and execution of the search warrants was unlawful.

Counsel for the Australian Federal Police agreed to an order that until the case was determined, it would not access or examine any of the material seized during the raid.

The union is seeking the material to be returned if it's found police acted unlawfully.

The matter has been listed for hearing in Canberra on October 12 and 13.
