Cop knocked out during Surfers Paradise brawl

A police officer is in hospital after being knocked out during a vicious brawl in Surfers Paradise early this morning.

The officer was injured when he tried to break up a fight between six men outside a nightclub on Orchid Avenue at 1.45am.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital with head injuries.

Three men have been arrested and will face court this morning.

A 22-year-old Western Australian man was charged with serious assault, public nuisance in licensed premises and obstructing police.

Another WA man, 21, was charged with assaulting police, public nuisance and being drunk and disorderly.

A 20-year-old man from Logan Central in Brisbane's south has been charged with obstructing police.
