The 40-year-old man tried to drive off with a young girl in the car, police said.

He stopped after hitting the officer and the girl got out of the car unhurt, they said.

The man, from Bayswater North, was capsicum sprayed and arrested after he refused to get out of the car.

He is being interviewed by police.
