Police are investigating reports a 12-year-old girl was approached by a man while walking home from school in Perth on Monday.

Detectives said the child was walking along Axminster Road in Warnbro at about 2.40pm when a man got out of a car and walked towards her.

It is alleged the man grabbed her shirt before the girl was able to break free from his grip and run away.
