Teen caught speeding on Victorian highway gets mum's car impounded

A teenager has had his mother's car impounded after he was caught speeding at 180km/h on a Victorian highway this afternoon. 

The Wangaratta Highway Patrol detected the South Australian P-plate driver travelling north-bound along the Hume Freeway at 180km/h at 4pm.

The 19-year-old was driving his mum’s car when he was stopped by patrol officers.

The vehicle has been impounded for 30 days and a $1325 towing and storage fee will have to be paid to get back the car.

The man is expected to be charged on summons with driving at a dangerous speed and exceeding the speed limit.

There was a 22-year-old passenger in the car.
