A 36-year-old Perth man will need surgery to prevent his eye slipping down after an assault outside a nightclub over his shoes.

The man had just left Metro City nightclub in Northbridge at about 1.30am (WST) on April 25 when a stranger approached him demanding his shoes.

When the victim refused, the man struck him to the face repeatedly.

He was initially taken to hospital for treatment to cuts and bruises on his face.

But a few days later, an X-ray showed several fractures to his right eye socket and nasal passage.

His eye socket had also shifted.

The victim will likely require plates to be bolted into his fractured nose and cheek bones to prevent his eye slipping down.

Police are hunting for the attacker, who is described as being in his mid 20s, about 180cm tall, fair skinned, of medium build and with brown hair.

He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark jeans.

He was not wearing any shoes but had white socks on.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
