UPDATE: Four homes destroyed in raging bushfire possibly started by gunman on the run
Police are searching for a suspected gunman who allegedly fired shots at a police car before fleeing into bushland at Mount Morgan, west of Rockhampton.
A bushfire, possibly lit by the man, is now raging in the nearby Bouldercombe recreational reserve.
The blaze has destroyed four homes and residents have been evacuated.
Police spotted the man, who was wanted for questioning, this afternoon and he fled, starting a pursuit that headed west of Rockhampton to Mount Morgan.
The man allegedly fired shots at a police car before driving down the Burnett Highway and then fleeing into bushland.
The bushfire broke out shortly after.
Police have stopped people from entering and leaving the area between the Burnett Highway, Razorback Road and Poison Creek Road and an evacuation centre has now been set up in a nearby school.
Darrin Shadlow of Queensland police told 9NEWS the man was believed to be armed with a high-powered rifle.
The man is aged in his 20s and is heavily tattooed.
Police are warning anyone who sees him not to approach him, and to call Triple Zero.
