Police hunt convicted murderer on the run with broken ankle in Victoria

A Victorian man convicted over a murder 15 years ago with a violent history of offending is on the run after breaching his parole.

John Douglas Hartwick, 65, was released from prison on November 1 but had his parole cancelled on December 15 after failing to comply with the release conditions.

He has previously been convicted for murder, armed robbery, assault, firearms and drug offences.

Police stormed his Norlane home on Thursday night but it was empty, and officers have been searching for him since.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Hartwick is described as being around 175cm tall with a thin build, grey hair and tattoos.

He recently broke his ankle and relies on a moon boot to get around.

Police are urging members of the public not to contact him, but instead call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
