Exclusion zone in force after suspected hydrochloric acid explosion at Bowen accommodation complex

An exclusion zone is in force around an accommodation complex in Bowen on Queensland’s Whitsunday Coast after reports of an explosion.

It is believed a container of suspected hydrochloric acid exploded at the property on the Bruce Highway this morning.

Police have since found another container filled with the liquid and established a 100-metre exclusion zone.

The container is understood to be intact.

There have been no reports of injuries and police say there is no immediate danger to the public.
