Man charged after five-hour siege in pregnant stranger’s Caboolture home

A man has been charged after allegedly breaking into a heavily pregnant Queensland woman’s home and demanding her car keys, before barricading himself in her backyard.

Police were called to the McMillan Street, Caboolture home about 6.15am this morning after the man allegedly demanded the woman’s keys before she managed to escape with her three-year-old boy.

It is believed the man was drug-affected at the time.

An emergency situation was declared just after 8am when the man refused to come out.

Hodgkin Street, O’Neill Street, McMillan Street and Davison Street were closed off as officers negotiated with the man, who was eventually dragged out of the home in his underwear about 11.40am.

The 27-year-old, from Caboolture, was later charged with two counts of deprivation of liberty and one count each of entering premises with intent, armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, assaulting police and wilful damage.

He will appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court tomorrow.
