Police confirm South Australia suitcase remains belong to girl

The skeletal remains found in a suitcase at the South Australian bush belong to a girl, police have confirmed.

Investigators previously said they suspected the remains were those of a female child, aged two-and-a-half to four, with fair hair.

The grim discovery was made at Wynarka two weeks ago.

Police said the girl had suffered a "violent and horrible" death.

They earlier released an image of a distinctive home-made quilt found with the girl, in the hope that it would prompt somebody to come forward.
