Driver accused of wild police chase faces court

A driver accused of leading police on a wild chase through the Glass House Mountains in Queensland has faced court.

In Polair vision from Queensland Police, a car is seen travelling on the Bruce Highway in the wrong direction at 5.25pm yesterday.

The vehicle then weaves through oncoming traffic and continues towards Runcorn.

The footage shows the driver stop at Hillcrest at 6.30pm where he allegedly stole a Mazda ute.

The driver managed to evade police and continued to lead the chase, with officers forced to deploy road spikes to stop him.

The spikes caused the car to leave a bright trail of sparks in its wake, with the vehicle eventually catching fire.

The driver eventually lost control of the ute and stopped at Heathwood at about 7pm.

Police then pounced and took the driver into custody.

James McClure, 33, from Bundaberg faced court this morning on 13 charges including dangerous driving, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and serious assault police.

He was wanted on a return to prison warrant and made no application for bail. He will remain in custody until his next court appearance in June.
