Innocent young woman caught up in wild police chase after carjacking

A 22-year-old woman in Adelaide's north-east has become unwittingly caught up in a wild police chase as she was carjacked by the wanted driver last night. 

The pursuit began when police spotted a stolen KIA SUV on North East Road in Holden Hill around 9pm. 

Officers pursued the vehicle to nearby Tarton Road, where they deployed road spikes in an attempt to stop it.

However, the driver continued on despite the damaged tyres and crashed at the intersection of Grand Junction and Sudholz Roads.

There, he allegedly assaulted an innocent driver and stole her silver Toyota sedan. 

The chase came to an end on Bank Street in the city, where the Toyota was dumped before the 34-year-old suspected driver was arrested in nearby Woodsons Lane.

The man was charged with a range of offences including robbery and driving to escape police pursuit.
