Police charge Rozelle convenience store owner with murder

Police back-up lined the hospital driveway as three arson squad detectives moved in to make the bedside arrest of Rozelle convenience store owner Adeel Khan.

It was an early morning visit for 44-year-old who lay in his ward as he learned police blame him for the deadly blast on September 4.

The convenience store owner was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder, three counts of manslaughter and 17 arson related offences including setting fire to a building for financial gain.

Bianka O'Brien, her baby son Jude and Chris Noble their lives in the fatal blast.

Naima Kahn has sat by her husband’s side throughout the investigation.

Today their teenager son fought back tears as he sat inside their once family home.

Police allege evidence found at the crime scene led to today’s charges.

"This has been a complex, tedious and exhaustive investigation for police," Detective Superintendent Murray Chapman said.

Supt Chapman said Mr Khan was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and three counts of manslaughter as well as charges relating to the damage of property, one of which is setting fire for a financial gain.

"I'd like to take this opportunity again to thank the police and the council workers who assisted in managing and processing the crime scene at Rozelle," Supt Chapman said.

"Thanks to the Rozelle community and shop owners, for their patience and understanding."
