Man charged with theft of more than 100 copper plaques from Tweed Heads cemetery
Police have arrested a man and charged him with the alleged theft of more than 100 copper plaques from a cemetery at Tweed Heads, near the NSW-Queensland border.
The alleged theft was discovered by a groundsman at the Tweed Heads Lawn and General Cemetery on Kirkwood Street on August 20, with police beginning an investigation the same day.
Early this morning police arrested a man in Murwillumbah and took him to Tweed Heads Police Station.

He was charged with wilfully damaging a protected place, stealing 102 copper plaques from gravestones, malicious damage, and possessing a prohibited drug.

The man was refused bail and is expected to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court later today.
