Police appeal for assault witnesses
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was punched in the face and left with a fractured nose and eye socket in Tamworth in northern NSW.
The 22-year-old man was walking south near the intersection of Marius Street and Murray Street when he was approached by a man at about 2.30am (AEDT) on Sunday, the final day of the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Witnesses told police the two men spoke and then the man punched the 22-year-old in the face, knocking him to the ground.
The man then ran from the scene and the injured man was taken to hospital.
Detectives would like to speak to a man described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged 25 to 30 years, with short blond or brown hair, wearing blue denim jeans and a white shirt with a black motif on the front.
