PM talks jobs, regions to kick off 2017

Malcolm Turnbull has reaffirmed the coalition's commitment to building jobs at the first federal; cabinet meeting of the new year.

The prime minister reflected on his visit to the Alcoa aluminium smelter in Portland, Victoria and Port Lincoln, SA after its huge blackout, saying his team is committed to creating opportunities for all Australians, including in the regions.

"The adjustment from the mining construction boom alone caused a lot of hardship in the regions and yet we are there, creating the export opportunities, building the infrastructure, providing the investment, creating the jobs that enable all Australians to share in the great years ahead," he said.
