Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has the edge on his political opponents in the trust and competent leader stakes, according to the ABC Vote Compass survey.

Mr Turnbull scored 5.3 for competence and 4.7 on trust.

Today's leaders had higher scores on both counts than Kevin Rudd, Tony Abbott and Christine Milne registered during the 2013 election.

The findings are based on a survey of 149,321 respondents between May 8-13.
