Another play sand set recalled over asbestos fears

Another play sand product sold in pharmacies around the country has been recalled over fears of asbestos contamination.

The MIKI Sand Art Set, distributed through Sax International, was for sale from July 24, 2023, to November 20, 2025.

The product includes 12 sand colours, 12 card designs, one tray, and a shaping tool.

"The products may cause a risk to health as initial testing found unidentified mineral fibres that were consistent with tremolite – type asbestos," the recall notice says.

Asbestos is a banned substance in Australia, and has been found in a number of play sand products recently.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product, and store it safely - for example, tied in a bag - out of reach of children.
