Ruddock goes from stopping the boats to stopping the cars

In his former job as Immigration Minister Phillip Ruddock wanted to stop the boats.

Now as the Mayor of Hornsby, he’s hoping to stop the cars.

Cr Ruddock has told A Current Affair he’s sick of commuters coming down from the Central Coast and stealing his local residents' carparks.

"What we find is the fares are slightly cheaper if you travel from the Central Coast and I've heard further they don't have sufficient car parking in their own centres," he said.

Cr Ruddock is considering a number of potential restrictions on carparks that fall within the borders of Hornsby Shire Council.

He’s also considering the idea of free carparking areas for local residents.

The Central Coast is now a city that’s almost the size of Canberra.

"Warnervale near Wyong is one of the fastest growing areas in the whole of New South Wales and quite simple to see why - the median house price is half the price of somewhere an hour away like Hornsby in Sydney," social demographer Mark McCrindle said.

Cr Ruddock said he would discuss the local parking problems with his constituents, and take inspiration from surrounding councils.
