Luke Cunningham has been charged with one count each of murder and break and enter.

He was arrested by heavily armed officers in the suburb of Hamilton overnight.

9NEWS understands Mr Cunningham allegedly fired the fatal shot because he suspected Bell of being a police informant.

Mr Cunningham has been remanded in custody, and will be brought back before the courts in June.

Meanwhile friends of Mr Bell have left tributes on social media.

“I am in utter disbelief, so shocked and saddened about the horrendous news of your passing,” one friend wrote.
