Greens renew calls for Peter Dutton to resign as fresh allegations rock Home Affairs Minister

The Greens have renewed calls for Peter Dutton to be sacked or resign over fresh allegations he intervened to get two Queensland police officers jobs with the Border Force agency the Home Affairs Minister was setting up.

Mr Dutton approached then Customs chief, Roman Quaedvlieg, with the sacked Border Force Commissioner confirming he had met with both men, Fairfax Media reports.

He would not comment on how or why they met, or what was discussed.

Mr Dutton's office said any suggestion he had acted inappropriately is "ridiculous", and that Mr Quaedvlieg is a "disenchanted individual who is bitter about his termination from the role of ABF commissioner".

One of the men involved, John Lewis, is the son of the late corrupt Queensland police commission, Terry Lewis. The second, Matt Stoc, is reportedly a good friend of Mr Dutton's.

The overnight allegations have emboldened the Greens, as they continue to threaten a no confidence motion against Mr Dutton over the au pair affair.

Senator Nick McKim said the matter is a "big test for prime minister Morrison."

"He has to decide what kind of government he wants to lead," Senator McKim said.

"Is he prepared to turn a blind eye to a minister who's acted improperly, who's lied to the house, and in charge of Australia's most important security agencies?

"This stuff beggars belief. There is a massive stench emanating from Peter Dutton's office and he’s got to go."

He said Prime Minister Scott Morrison has to "take a stand for honesty, proper process and against ministers abusing their power" and breaching the ministerial code of conduct.

It is understood Mr Lewis and Mr Stock were advised how to better their chances of getting a job.

Mr Lewis confirmed he had met Mr Quaedvlieg, but doesn’t know the meeting came about, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Greens MP, Adam Bandt, is canvassing crossbench support for a no confidence motion, although Rebekha Sharkie yesterday said should wouldn't back any motion against the government.
