Home Affairs Minister, Peter Dutton, will miss Parliament this week, after injuring his arm and undergoing surgery on the weekend.
Mr Dutton this morning tweeted that he’d be absent after the mishap last Friday.
It’s unclear what the precise injury is.
Attorney-General, Christian Porter, will take over Mr Dutton’s parliamentary duties until he returns.
It’s unfortunate timing for Mr Dutton as he prepared to argue for the need to speed up legislation for tougher encryption laws.
Mr Dutton has urged the cross-party security committee, chaired by Liberal Andrew Hastie, to finish its review of the legislation so it can be passed before parliament rises for the Christmas break.
His office wouldn’t confirm reports the minister tore the bicep from his arm while building a fence.
