Perth vegan activist spends night behind bars after breaching bail conditions

A notorious Perth vegan protester has spent another night behind bars after breaching his bail conditions.

James Warden, 25, was arrested yesterday after failing to report to police.

The accused activist ringleader is charged with breaking into WA farms with fellow campaigners and stealing an 11-week-old calf and dead piglet.

Warden’s bail conditions require him to check in at Bayswater Police Station every Friday.

But instead of meeting that obligation, he took part in a “peaceful protest” outside restaurants in Leederville.

The group was filmed carrying TV screens and preaching their vegan views in front of diners.

Warden’s lawyer says he went to the station later that evening, around midnight, but it was closed for the weekend.

He turned himself in yesterday after a phone call from Bayswater police.

At his last court appearance, Warden admitted to four trespassing charges, but pleaded not guilty to aggravated robbery and stealing.

He was released on the same bail conditions, but the Magistrate warned he might stay in jail if he breaches them again.
