Perth to lose Big Day Out after 2014

This year's Big Day Out in Perth will be the last for the West Australian capital.

Chief executive Adam Zammit on Thursday confirmed tweets by promoter AJ Maddah who had said 2014 was "definitely the last BDO" for Perth.

"I stand by AJ Maddah's tweet," Zammit told AAP, adding he had never denied this was the case.

The cancellation comes after this year's Perth show switched location at the last minute, from the Claremont Showgrounds to Arena Joondalup.

Ticket sales were also reportedly poor, at about 15,000.

Big Day Organisers haven't had much luck lately - in November, headliners Blur pulled out two months before the tour kicked off.

Then in December a printing error meant Sydney ticketholders got passes with the wrong date on them.

The annual music festival has also faced criticism that it is losing relevance with younger audiences and becoming too mainstream.

Perth's last Big Day Out will take place on February 2.
