Newborn baby in critical condition after alleged assault by father

A newborn baby is fighting for life in Perth Children’s Hospital after he was allegedly assaulted by his father.

Police said the 25-year-old man was home alone with seven-week-old boy on August 10 when the infant was seriously injured.

Five weeks later, the boy remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The Hamersley man has been charged with aggravated grievous bodily harm.

He is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court next month.
