Perth puts the Ritz on Elizabeth Quay
Perth is set to gain a Ritz-Carlton hotel at its Elizabeth Quay development on the Swan River, the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) says.
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company has announced its intention to build the 204 room hotel at the riverfront precinct affectionately dubbed "Betty's Jetty" and the "Regina Marina" by locals as it was named by Premier Colin Barnett after the Queen.
Perth is struggling with a shortage of hotel rooms, with WA Tourism's annual report showing an additional 1650 rooms are needed to meet targets.
"Perth's Elizabeth Quay and its state-of-the-art facilities will be crucial in attracting interstate and international tourists, filling gaps left by a settling mining sector," AHA chief executive Bradley Woods said on Wednesday.
