Chevron to build $800m, 29-storey HQ at Perth's Elizabeth Quay

Perth's skyline is set for another transformation, with energy giant Chevron signing a deal to build its headquarters at Elizabeth Quay.

The plans for the 29-storey tower have been five years in the making.

The $800 million build will begin next year, with Brookfield Properties signing a contract today.

Artist impressions show exactly what the building will look like, with 54,000 square metres of office space, most of which will be used by Chevron.

The lower levels will include shops, cafes, a childcare centre and a gym.

Sophie Fallman from Brookfield Property says it's an expression of business confidence in the state.

"It's a phenomenal opportunity to unlock the waterfront and bring it right down to the edge of the CBD," she said.

The State government approved the development proposal in December last year, after several years of negotiations.

WA Premier Mark McGowan says the building will help activate the wider Elizabeth Quay precinct - which still has five other skyscraper blocks untouched.

"They will create 1000 jobs in construction and bring thousands of people into this area to work each day," he said.

The tower is due for completion in 2023.
