Construction to start on luxury $3.8 billion housing development in Perth

In the midst of the housing crisis, construction is about to start on 270 luxury houses and apartments in Perth's east. 

The state government says the Burswood Point project will play a key part in providing rental relief.

"We need all housing supply, whether it's social, affordable, medium product, high product, we need all of it," Housing Minister John Carey said.

"Because every addition to the housing market means another roof over someone's head and relief to the rental market."

Despite the hefty price tags - starting at $755,000 for one-bedroom units and passing $1 million for two-bedders - presales have already reached $140 million.

The ceremonial sod was turned on 203 high-end apartments, as well as 67 luxury houses – the first buildings in the $3.8 billion plan for Belmont Park Racecourse, a site acquired by developers a decade ago.

Construction is slated to begin next year, with residents expected to move in by the end of 2026.

The entire development, comprising 4500 homes, and 90,000 square metres of office spaces and retail areas, is projected to be completed within the next ten years.
