Two offenders are on the run after carjacking and burning the 21-year-old male driver in Perth's northern suburbs.

The victim had stopped his Toyota ute at an intersection on Cedric Street, Balcatta between 8pm (WST) and 8.30pm on Wednesday when two men in a white Holden Commodore pulled up behind him.

One of them got out and approached the victim's car, punching him through his open driver's side window before pulling him out from behind the wheel and shoving him the back of his own car.

After the other offender jumped in, they drove for about 20 minutes before abandoning the victim and his car on Cedric Street near Balcatta High School.

But before they fled, they poured a flammable liquid into the vehicle and set it alight, burning the victim on his arm and leg.

The man was taken by ambulance to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital for treatment while the Department of Fire and Emergency Services put out the car fire.

Police are calling for information that will help them catch the offenders, who potentially face charges including assault occasioning bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, criminal damage by fire and stealing.
