'They took chunks out of me': Perth grandfather recovering from surgery after dog attack

A Perth grandfather allegedly mauled by two dogs after a bizarre clash with a busker wants the animals put down.

Karl Ziak, 61, is recovering from surgery, while the owner of the animals is out on bail and claiming he is the victim.

Ziak said he has bite marks across his head, arms and legs with some wounds through to the bone after an incident with a pair of canines in Nollamara, in the city's north.

"If it would have been a child they would have been dead," Ziak said.

"They just grabbed, they took chunks out of me.

"They bit right through, lucky I still got some left but they ripped the whole meat off."

The owner of the dogs, Paul Bond, said his pets are harmless and has claimed he is the victim.

"I busk down the shops regularly and people love my dogs," Bond said.

"I was assaulted, my dogs got involved, they're being punished now as well."

The men's dogs began brawling outside Nollamara Shopping Centre on Sunday night before a furious Ziak beat Bond with his own instrument.

"Well what do you want me to do? I had nothing else to smash him with, so I had to use his guitar, you know," Ziak said.

Hours later Bond allegedly retaliated and slashed Ziak's tyres with a knife.

The pair allegedly got into an altercation and his dogs attacked.

Bond has since been charged over the alleged attack while Ziak underwent surgery and needed skin grafts.

"They haven't attacked people, they've got a problem with Karl and Karl's dog," Bond said.

The future of the two dogs is in the hands of the City of Stirling.

"You can love animals but once an animal draws blood, I think it's time to go," Ziak said.
