Funeral held for seven-year-old girl who died waiting for emergency treatment in Perth hospital

Friends and family of a seven-year-old girl who died after waiting hours for treatment in a Perth hospital have gathered to say their final goodbyes.

The girl's mother and father said she waited up to two hours for treatment at Perth Children's Hospital while they pleaded for medical care.

On Saturday, Aishwarya was laid to rest in a pink coffin while friends, family and school teachers gathered to mourn the death of the bubbly girl who wanted to be a teacher herself.

"What happened today is that she actually did become Australia's youngest teacher because at age seven she's taught us that life is short," family spokesman Suresh Rajan said.

"She's taught us that there should not be a day where we do not hug our loved ones and tell them that we love them.

The little girl's family are calling for a review into the state's hospital system.

"Ashwarya might have gone but the fight we are going to start to in terms of changing the system will only begin now," Mr Rajan said.

Aishwarya's parents last week told 9News they pleaded for help while their daughter's condition deteriorated but claimed they were ignored by medical staff.
