Dogs to return to Perth home despite attacking three people

Residents on Palmyra, in Perth's south, have been told two dangerous dogs could be returned to their owners as early as this week, despite attacking three people last year.

An elderly woman was mauled in her Aurelia Street front yard when the dogs escaped from their home.

She was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital where she was treated for five days.

The Staffy Cross' also attacked a couple who came to the victim’s aid.

The 32-year-old woman and 39-year-old man both sustained puncture wounds to their legs and backs.

The dogs were impounded by the City of Melville, but last week their owners won a legal fight to have them released.

Residents on Aurelia Street said they have now been told the animals won’t be destroyed.

In a statement to 9NEWS the council said it will “ensure that the dogs be declared ‘dangerous’ and that the strict conditions regarding ‘dangerous dogs’ are complied with.”

More than 130 people have signed an online petition to stop their release.

The dogs will have to be muzzled in public and held in a secure yard, which is just 100 metres from a popular playground.

They will be destroyed if any of the conditions under the Dangerous Dog Act are breached.
