Perth burglars break dog's legs

A Perth woman has pleaded for public help to catch burglars who broke the rear legs of her family's 15-year-old dog, which had to be put down.

The callous thieves broke into the Camillo property, in Perth's southern suburbs, on Tuesday morning, ransacking drawers and stealing a camera.

Resident Sally, 27, who lives with her mother and three children, aged six, seven and eight, said she was concerned when she returned home and their dingo-kelpie cross Sheeba didn't bound up to greet her as usual.

She found the dog in extreme pain, shaking and foaming at the mouth.

The dog was rushed to a vet and had to be put down.

Sally said the dog belonged to her mother, who nearly collapsed from shock over the attack.

"I'm really worried for her," she told Fairfax radio.

She said neighbours had reported hearing barking about 10.30am (WST).

Police said thieves had picked the lock of a sliding door to enter the home.
