A 59-year-old woman has died following a serious collision in Melbourne on Monday.

Police say emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian near the intersection of Abbotsford and Arden streets in North Melbourne at 8pm.

A 59-year-old St Leonards woman was taken to hospital in a critical condition, where she died today.

Queensland Police were called to Ashmore after reports an allegedly stolen vehicle had crashed into surrounding bushland.

The driver of the car, a 36-year-old Traralgon man, stopped at the scene and assisted the pedestrian. He has spoken with investigators.

Police say the exact circumstances have not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
